Using My Voice
I found this in my history on facebook:
I couldn't resist adding the following to my post today:
It also means knowing that there are times to rise up and speak out, not let our rights be infringed upon or taken away.
We cannot allow hatred, bigotry, inequality, the heartless, and the inhumane divide us.
We have to email, write, call, and for those able, peacefully march and gather to make ourselves heard. We cannot give in to those that want us to be silent and complacent, so many didn't vote or bother to know what was happening and this is proof why as much as it stresses, gives some headaches, it is important to pay attention, to educate ourselves, to make every vote really count.
If you say "it doesn't effect me" and decide to not cast a vote, now you see this and say "well why didn't anyone stop this from happening" then you were part of the problem.
So many voted for Trump because they claimed he would fix the economy, they ignored his racism, his criminality, all for the claims of fixing the economy but they never thought about what Tarif's will really mean for the people.
So many say they aren't racist, but they still voted for a racist, making it perfectly acceptable to support racism by excusing it with other things.
So many voted for him, believing that all his hate speech toward people like them didn't really mean them, now they are learning differently and question how this could be.
We need people to stand up and be part of the solution, this shouldn't be about economy, but about the heart and soul of our country. It should be about recognizing the real importance of human life, it should be about remembering compassion, empathy, kindness. About protecting those we love no matter the color of their skin, the gender within, where their heart lies, or their religion. It should be about remembering that we had a responsibility to teach the generations that come after that we didn't forget our past.
We need people who won't be afraid to remember the past, the histories, that won't erase Black History Month, sweep away historical atrocities, punish people for teaching the reality of what ancestors did.
I always wished I could be proud of all the heritages that make up my ancestral well, but I cannot feel that pride at all. A part of my ancestral well is made up of Indigenous, a people I did not have the opportunity to learn from, to connect with as I grew up, but other parts of my ancestry come from the very ones that pushed them from their lands, forced them from their homes, took their lives and livelihood. This does not give me pride.
When I was young, before I start to really learn, I had so much pride in being an American, but at this point with how things have been I have felt ashamed to be an American. Regardless of whether Elon helped cheat the system or not, so many American's voted to let this man into office that is determined to take other places over, make our country among the top hated. He is trying to destroy the soul of this country.
Because of him, those of us that stand against tyranny are being lumped right in with his cronies by a good portion of the rest of the world.
We have to stand up, stand out, make our voices heard, fight for a better and brighter future but also for safer present for all of those at risk.
To ALL of my transgender siblings out there, my lgbtqia family, to all the discouraged immigrants at risk, to all the survivors out there trying to remember to breathe through this. To all the women fearing for their children and themselves, facing reproductive rights fear, the men fearing for the people in your lives that are effected by all of this, remember you are not alone.
To all those out there struggling with the anxiety and depression at the state of things, I understand you and I know it is not easy to face all of this, that at times it's hard not to feel hopeless at the state of our country, but they only win if we let them. They only succeed if we stop fighting, we stop speaking out, we stop gathering together. We are #StrongerTogether
I don't claim to know everything, I despise politics because it stresses me out, but the one thing I do know is that we need to fight for our rights.
Anyone that agrees, if you want to use this or parts of it, feel free... let's use all the resources we can.
